Objectives Introduction to the physical phenomena utilised in various sensors and transducers. The use of signal conditioning circuits required by various sensor devices. Understanding the application of operational amplifiers to signal conditioning and filtering, covering a diverse range of engineering applications.
Synopsis Introduction to various aspects of analog, digital and hybrid electronics systems supported by transducers and actuators covering a diverse range of engineering applications. The physical phenomena utilised in transducers. Transducer bridges and amplifiers. Basic transducers for length, displacement, force, acceleration, temperature, and flow. Photo detectors and fibre optics. Analog to digital converter usage in interfacing analog signals to digital systems.
Assessment Examination (2 hours): 70% · Practical work, assignments and tests: 30%
