Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to identify key elements for effective human resource development (HRD) practice within enterprise settings, with particular reference to the notion of the learning organisation; understand the essential links between HRD philosophies, policies, planning and practices within those settings; develop a greater awareness of their organisational environment through the use of case study methodology; and develop the capacity to constructively contribute to effective HRD function within enterprise settings.

Synopsis Following an introductory weekend workshop, students will undertake an individual in-depth study of an aspect of HRD in a medium-sized enterprise, with close scrutiny of issues relating to the learning organisation. Under the guidance of the lecturer, this case study approach will require students to investigate, analyse, and evaluate issues and links between human resource development philosophies, policies, planning and practices within the organisation of their choice with the view to enhancing their knowledge and expertise as adult educators or workplace training and development practitioners.
