Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed an advanced knowledge and understanding of the nature, causes and epidemiology of anxiety disorders across the life span; assessment, counselling and intervention skills for the management of anxiety disorders in various settings; an understanding of case management issues.
Synopsis A course of lectures, videos and activities designed for students wishing to develop skills to work with people of all ages who are suffering from anxiety disorders. The subject addresses classification, aetiological factors and assessment procedures (avoidance tests, anxiety scales etc). Anxiety management techniques are covered with an emphasis on the need for exposure in helping people overcome their excessive fears and anxieties. Practical procedures in anxiety reduction will form a central part of this subject. Case management issues (eg keeping files, making a referral) are emphasised.
