Introduction to research methodology

8 points - First semester - Distance - Prerequisites: Students who have undertaken the previously existing BEdPrimary (Upgrading) subject GEC4470 (Research in education) would not be eligible to enrol in this subject

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to distinguish between a wide variety of approaches to undertaking research in education, including historical, descriptive, correlational, causal-comparative and experimental; have become familiar with the nature of a research report; be able to construct research plans; have presented a review of research literature; have demonstrated the skills required to present a completed research proposal.

Synopsis This subject considers the nature of educational research and the different kinds of formal research methods in this field. It enables students to decide on a research topic, determine the most appropriate method to answer the research question or pursue the research topic, plan its execution and prepare a formal research project.

Assessment Two assignments (2000 words each): 50% each
