Early childhood expressive arts

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed an understanding of, and skills in, a range of developmentally appropriate early childhood expressive arts experiences.

Synopsis An emphasis will be given to the importance of teachers in early childhood settings providing a range of arts experiences, including music, creative movement, visual art, and drama, for children aged 0-8 years. These experiences are based on an understanding of philosophical and pedagogical issues in the arts and early childhood education. The role of the educator as facilitator of children's creative, aesthetic and artistic development is addressed. Consideration is given to the arts within a multi-cultural society and young children with special needs and abilities.

Assessment Assignment (1500 words): 20% - Practical assignment: 80%
