Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should possess a general knowledge of the media types suitable for computerised multimedia applications; have developed practical experience in media digitisation methods; have developed practical experience in multimedia application design and development; have developed an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of current multimedia hardware and software.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with a practical and theoretical introduction to multimedia application design and development in the graphical user interface environment. Students will be taught the digital characteristics of both temporal and non-temporal media - as well as the methods of digitizing these media; multimedia application development methodologies; the concepts of hypermedia; and the current capabilities and limitations of multimedia hardware and software. A heavy emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of multimedia application development.

Assessment Practical exercises: 50% - Examination: 50%
