Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed knowledge and understanding of basic practical skills required for each of the four arts - art, dance, drama and music; the processes common to all the arts - creating, making and presenting; arts criticism and aesthetics; past and present contexts; curriculum issues concerning the arts in education; rationales for each of the arts in education; how to initiate, present and evaluate classroom programs in each area of the arts with confidence.
Synopsis The subject focuses on four areas - art, dance, drama and music education. It aims to introduce students to the nature of the arts and its implications for child development; to introduce students to the practice of the arts in the school curriculum; to assist students to develop a rationale for each of the arts and be prepared and confident to teach the arts in the primary school.
Assessment Written: 50% - Practical work: 50%
