Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to undertake teaching responsibilities and practise basic teaching skills in senior level grades for daily periods ranging from a half-day to two weeks in duration; discuss and compare their off-campus experiences with the experiences of other students, reflecting on the teaching and class management styles they have encountered, exploring why teachers utilise different approaches and strategies; simulate a team of teachers in a real school situation and produce an abridged version of a 'School of the Future Charter' document demonstrating basic mastery of the specific skills required to complete such a task (excluding budgetary preparation, because of its complexity).

Synopsis This subject consists of two complementary strands. Strand 'A' provides the opportunity for students to undertake advanced teaching and management tasks, involving extended program planning and implementation, taking substantial control periods in classrooms which more closely approximate the task of day-to-day teaching. The aim of strand 'B' is to give students the opportunity in a simulated situation to jointly undertake (in groups of three to four) the production of a 'school charter' document specifying the school profile, goal areas, school priorities, curriculum profile, codes of practice for teachers and one of school council, principal and community, pupil code of conduct, accountability, monitoring and reporting process, charter agreement.

Assessment Practice-teaching (strand 'A', off-campus): 48% - Group written assignment (strand 'B', on-campus): 32% - Individual written assignment: 20%
