Computer communications and applications for sport and recreation

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed a basic knowledge and understanding of the use, maintenance and operating system of computers. Students should also be able to identify and access information on the internet; prepare a homepage and develop promotional material on multimedia software; establish a database; utilise email programs; develop efficient communication systems; utilise computer applications for human movement research; develop a range of records utilising an electronic spreadsheet; identify and utilise computer communications and applications in the area of sport and outdoor recreation.

Synopsis This subject aims to equip students with a broad range of skills in information technology for use in various sport and outdoor recreation applications. Students will be introduced to the range of information technology available, including communication systems, databases, research support programs and information presentation methodologies. The subject aims to prepare students to utilise computers and information technology to enhance and streamline the administrative and marketing promotional aspects of sport and recreation activities which they conduct or manage. Word processing, spreadsheet operations, desktop publishing, multimedia presentations, HTML and computer communications will be included.

Assessment Project work (3x1000 words each): 25% each - Class test: 25%
