Objectives: Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have:
* an understanding of the policy, financial and organisational context for, and key issues involved in, the management of adult education projects;
* an appreciation of the role of project leaders and its relationship to organisational culture and development; a knowledge of the principles, strategies and processes for planning and managing adult education projects;
* an awareness of ethical and educational challenges posed by the commercialisation of adult education; and
* be able to demonstrate skills in undertaking market research, concept development, strategic planning, contract negotiation, program budgeting, costing, team building, networking, quality assurance, and performance monitoring and evaluation.

Synopsis: In the context of an emerging adult education and training market and an increasing emphasis on competitive funding and contract-based provision, the role of adult educators has expanded to include responsibilities for project management. The new demands on adult educators challenge traditional modes of working and necessitate the development of expertise in project leadership and management. This subject is intended to expose students to a range of contextual issues, strategies and techniques relating to the management of adult education projects. It will provide opportunities for students to develop and reflect on alternative approaches to educational project management through a combination of interactive, group-based projects relevant to their specific work roles and environments. There will be a strong emphasis on the acquisition and application of the practical skills involved in all phases of project management for adult education. The subject will enhance the capacity of students to adopt a variety of approaches to leadership, resource management, marketing, quality assurance and project evaluation.

Assessment: Assignment one (1000 words) 30% . Assignment two (3000 words) 70%
