The course has been designed to provide registered nurses with indepth knowledge and specialised skills to promote effective nursing care in the gerontic area. Graduates should therefore be capable of functioning as advanced caregivers in aged healthcare settings, be able to demonstrate an ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills to patient care, and be equipped to respond in an increasingly complex health care environment.

The course consists of three core subjects and five specialist subjects in gerontics, and is structured as follows:
Assessment for the course comprises assignment work and examination.
Students who wish to seek credits and exemptions from the course (because of relevant and equivalent studies in other courses or institutions, normally at postgraduate level) should apply through the administrative officer (postgraduate), School of Nursing to the Head of the School of Nursing.
