Aims

This coursework masters provides an extended education and training in methods used in the design, development and application of computer systems for the management of business operations. This involves the study of business-related computer techniques and business procedures leading to an understanding of the design, operation and control of computer systems. Applications include those in management, business data processing, planning, scheduling, forecasting, production management, inventory management, financial management, business modelling and other functional areas of business, industry and government.

Entry requirements

Candidates with a relevant honours degree, or a recognised bachelors degree and a relevant graduate diploma, will normally be admitted to the masters year. Applicants with a pass degree will normally be required to enter the masters preliminary year of the degree.

Course structure

Preliminary coursework

Students with a bachelors degree are normally required to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Business Systems, which requires the completion of eight coursework subjects. Students who complete that course are eligible to apply for entry into the masters year. Please refer to the preceding entry for the Graduate Diploma in Business Systems for further information.

Masters year

In the distance education mode the course is normally completed over two years. To qualify for the masters award all students are required to satisfactorily complete eight subjects. The majority of the subjects are to be selected from the following:

Candidates may select up to two fifth level subjects from the masters preliminary year. Up to two subjects may be selected from other graduate programs in the faculty or in other faculties of the university, as approved by the head of school.

Completed applications

Completed applications are to be forwarded to the student matters officer, Gippsland School of Computing and Information Technology, Monash University, Churchill, Victoria, 3842, by 18 September 1998 to be considered for a first-round offer. Applications received after that date, but before 30 November 1998, will be considered for a second round of offers. Later applications may be considered if places are available.
