Aims

The course is designed to provide a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of computer programming, information technology and information systems.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is a degree from a recognised university or college of advanced education, or an equivalent tertiary level accredited award in some area other than computing. Special entry requirements also exist where, in any one year, a limited number of admissions made may be granted to applicants who do not meet the above entrance requirements, but who have some tertiary qualifications and at least two years of relevant work experience.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate in Computing is normally completed over one year of distance education study.
The course consists of four subjects covering computer programming, information technology and information systems. All students will be required to have met the objectives and satisfied the assessment requirements of the four subjects as given in the following schedule:

Special requirements

Students will require good access to a computer (preferably an IBM PC or compatible) and a C++ compiler. Borland C++ is strongly recommended.

Completed applications

Completed applications are to be forwarded to the student matters officer, Gippsland School of Computing and Information Technology, Monash University, Churchill, Victoria, 3842, by 18 September 1998 to be considered for a first-round offer. Applications received after that date, but before 30 November 1998, will be considered for a second round of offers. Later applications may be considered if places are available.
