Full fee paying course
Attendance optional
The Faculty of Business and Economics has recently introduced executive
certificates as faculty-based awards in many discipline areas. These awards
offer a flexible and business relevant program for professionals and
experienced managers who do not currently hold a university degree and need to
obtain or upgrade their knowledge and skills at graduate level.
The executive certificates involve the study of four subjects in the relevant
discipline area and provide for articulation opportunities, where a relevant
graduate diploma course exists, into other graduate level courses for those
students who attain an average of credit level or above throughout their
studies.
Discipline areas currently available, their course codes and 1999 fees (subject
to approval) are as follows:
Overseas student subject fee: $1562.50
Admission
is open to non-degree applicants who have:
(i) at least six years business experience; and
(ii) been either an owner manager or in a management/supervisor
position or administered expenditure in excess of $500,000 pa for at
least three years and
(iii) are recommended by their employer or, if self employed,
provide suitable references.
Applicants should note that there are two intakes per year to these courses,
one to commence in first semester, and the second to commence in second semester.
It is strongly recommended that participants have access to a personal computer and a modem to facilitate email communication with their lecturer, other participants and electronic access to library services. The School of Business and Electronic Commerce operates in an IBM-compatible environment.
Weekend schools are run once a month for many of the graduate subjects. Attendance is optional for those students wishing to attend. This course may be accelerated by attending residential or summer schools conducted at the Monash Gippsland campus or face to face courses conducted at other Monash campuses.
The executive certificates consist of four single-semester graduate-level subjects normally taken over one year of study by distance education.
The
course provides a knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts and standards as
well as practical and analytical skills in accounting that will assist managers
to better understand the financial consequences of their decisions on their
organisations.
The course consists of four subjects from the following:
Please note that some of the above subjects require prior completion of a prerequisite subject. The prerequisite subjects are listed at the back of this handbook.
This
option can provide an industry or enterprise specific program with a tailored
four subject and relevant postgraduate award.
For first and second semesters students may select any graduate diploma level
subject available and normally delivered through distance education or on
campus through the Faculty of Business and Economics at the Gippsland campus or
other Monash University campuses. Some subjects have prerequisites.
This
option is particularly relevant for those responsible for overseeing the
electronic commerce applications within their organisation including activities
such as electronic trading, EDI, electronic banking, electronic mail, on-line
services, all forms of messaging and multimedia communications.
The course consists of four compulsory electronic commerce subjects. All four
subjects are offered in both semesters and the most common sequence of study is

wish to further develop their effectiveness in dealing with people at work and

it is strongly suggested that MGG9370 be taken in first semester:

subjects require prior completion of a prerequisite subject. The prerequisite
subjects are listed at the back of this handbook.
Students wishing to articulate from the Executive Certificate in Human
Resources into the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources must select their
subjects in the Executive Certificate in Human Resources in accordance with the
course requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources.
Some equivalent HR subjects also are available face-to-face at the Caulfield
campus.
This
option provides an understanding of the theories, principles and practices of
marketing, familiarity in the use of a range of analytical marketing tools and
their application to strategic marketing and management problems and issues.
The required sequence of subjects is:
All subjects are offered in both semesters, however, subjects MKG9401 and MKG9402 must be completed first as they are prerequisites for MKG9420 and MKG9444.
This option focuses on contemporary management theory, processes and practices. It consists of a core of two compulsory management subjects with the option to select two other subjects from a wide range of electives. Semester availability is shown in brackets.

This
option will be of particular interest to those involved in tourism operations
who wish to further develop or refine management and decision making skills
that can be applied to the hospitality, attractions and travel sectors of the
industry.
The following four core subjects are offered each semester:
Assessment will be a combination of assignments and final examination for each subject. Generally a pass is required in the final examination.
Completing an executive certificate with at least a credit average will allow direct entry into a relevant graduate diploma course where one exists, as follows:
It may be possible to articulate from a graduate diploma into a subsequent Master's program.
Applicants who have completed graduate-level subjects at a recognised tertiary institution, within the last five years, which are similar in content to a subject forming part of the course of study may apply for a credit exemption to a maximum of 50 per cent of the course.
