Logistics management is the planning, coordinating and controlling of the resources and information involved in the flow of materials and products from source to the final customer. The aim of this course is to extend the knowledge of people who already have relevant work experience in the planning and management of logistic support areas of business, the public service or the defence forces.

Course objectives

On completion of the course students should:

understand the critical role of functional and cross-functional responsibilities in logistics and supply chain management;
have a comprehensive, yet intellectually flexible understanding of logistics concepts;
have improved substantially their professional expertise and effectiveness in their current workplace by means of practical assignments;
have extended their knowledge and skills vital for success in today's highly competitive environment.

Admission requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of two years relevant employment experience, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Marketing as to the 1999 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management is normally completed in four semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

This course is offered as a series of eight one-week residential blocks on-campus at the Peninsula campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

MKP9640 Inventory and supply management
MKP9650 Logistics control
MKX9660 Relationship marketing and service quality management
MKX5251 Case studies in strategy

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Logistics Management with an average grade of credit or above may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Logistics Management).
