Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of communication concepts and theories, and their application; demonstrate competence in information gathering and reporting both orally and in writing on a range of issues in managerial communication; demonstrate professionalism and competency in structuring and delivering persuasive and informative business messages.
Synopsis Extends and develops students' understanding of organisational communication, issues and concepts, with particular emphasis on oral presentation skills. Fundamentals of communication in terms of oral presentations and business report writing, issues/concepts of managerial communication, including organisational communication, communicating in teams, interpersonal communication, assertiveness skills for managers, handling conflict, negotiation and selection interviewing.
Assessment Persuasive presentation: 20% · Essay (3000-3500 words): 30% · Major topic presentation and report (1500 words): 20% · Conference presentation and report: 30%
