Objectives The main objective of this subject is for students to gain an understanding of the contribution that human resource management (HRM) can make towards the achievement of an organisation's strategy and its operational goals and objectives. It seeks to familiarise students with the major influences in both the internal and external organisational environments that may impact upon the design, implemenation and success of HRM policies and practices. This subject then focuses on students gaining an understanding of design and application of the functional HRM activities and practices to achieve effective and efficient utilisation of an organisation's employees.

Synopsis This subject offers an overview of the major issues and areas of responsibility of human resource management (HRM). It considers the role of HRM in organisations. The underlying theme is the contribution HRM can make through its responsibilities for the effective use of staff to facilitate the achievement of organisational objectives.

Assessment Assignment one (2000 words): 20% · Assignment two (2000 words): 30% · Examination (3 hours): 50% · Students must pass the examination and obtain an overall pass in the subject.
