Objectives On the completion of this subject students will have examined major vocational theories and understand how they are applied to career choice; will be able to identify the principles of psychological testing used in recruitment and selection and able to administer, interpret and evaluate Holland's Vocational Preference Inventory; be able to determine how different learning styles are applied in education and training programs; will have acquired 'train the trainer' skills and include these in the construction and delivery of a skills training program; understand the processes that influence group behaviour and communication in organisations; determine how organisational structure, culture and conflict can influence organisational change processes and prepare and evaluate a curriculum vitae.
Synopsis Central theme: applied psychology focusing at the individual, group and organisational levels. At the individual level the use of vocational assessment inventories to determine career choice and selection will be examined. Theories of leadership, power, motivation job satisfaction and morale will be examined at the group level as well as the processes involved in training personnel. At the organisational level topics will include systems theory, organisational culture conflict and change.
Assessment Administration and interpretation of a vocational assessment inventory: 20% - Essay: 40% - Preparation and administration of a skills training session: 40%
