Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should be able to use the Indonesian language to complete basic transactions, pronounce names of people and places, follow directions, assist an Indonesian visitor, find and give information related to transportation, make an appointment, exchange information about their family, assist a guest with food items. In English, students should be able to discuss issues concerning; Muslim belief and custom, the reporting of Indonesia in the media, the variation in rural and urban life, the definition of borders of Southeast Asia.
Synopsis In this subject the primary focus is on the communication skills required for use in an Indonesian or Australian setting. The lecture series covers a broad introduction to the culture and geography of Indonesia as well as an introduction to strategies and skills required in learning a language. Practicals deal with the introduction and application of basic communication tasks with an emphasis on numeracy skills and immediate needs. The tutorial is student directed and deals with problems or points of interest arising from the practicals and lectures. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend school on the Gippsland Campus or nominate a tutor close to their place of study for an equivalent amount of hours.
Assessment Examinations (2 hours): 50% - Semester work50%
