Objectives On completion of this subject students will be able to examine a range of theories of human development; identify predictable life events and crises which may occur during infancy to old age; compare predictable and unpredictable life crises at different stages; explain the function of psycho-social crises in human growth and change; identify cultural and social differences in adult development; apply the concepts in development theory to human service work and apply the concepts in development theory to your own life.
Synopsis The subject provides students with an introduction to issues relating to lifespan development. We examine the basic processes individuals experience (or perhaps don't experience?) in their travels from childhood through adolescence and adulthood to old age and death. We will ask 'What is the impact of culture and social change on the human development process?'
Assessment Assignment: 25% Tutorial presentation: 35% Examination: 40%
