Objectives (i) Business French: Students will build on the units of business French completed in years one and two using business communication skills in new and more complex situations. They should be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing in a range of business situations (telephone, liaison interpreting, report writing, formal presentations) showing a knowledge of company structure and pricing and transport arrangements. They should be able to apply these skills in situations such as sales, negotiations and exhibitions. (ii) Translation: Theory and practice. This component of the course will explore different approaches to translation and translation theory.
Synopsis (i) Business French: Business communication such as telephone skills, letter and report writing, liaison interpreting, exhibition work, accessing and transmitting information from the Internet. (ii) Translation: Students will present and discuss their own translations, and will be introduced to selected writings on the art of translation.
Assessment Business French (continuous assessment): 55% - Final assessment 20% - Translation (continous assessment): 25%
