The life of the text: genesis, production, reception

Objectives Students completing this should have acquired an ability to analyse oral, scribal, print-media and electronic-media events, and to identify their formants and consequences. Through an understanding of the material conditions of authorship and text production in a variety of historical cultures they will be helped to formulate a role for themselves as media-conscious citizens. They should also possess enhanced writing and research skills. Fifth-year students will be expected to show a higher level of conceptual sophistication than fourth-year students and to work to a greater extent from primary sources.

Assessment Major project (3000 words): 40% -two exercises (1500 words) each 25% -Class contribution: 10%
