Objectives On successful of this subject students should have acquired the knowledge that will enhance their understanding of contemporary China in the context of its long cultural tradition; the ability to comprehend and express complex ideas in both spoken and written forms, consolidating in this regard, skills already acquired at the advanced intermediate level and strategies of cross-cultural conceptualisation and incorporating translation skills crucial to critical thinking on a range of contemporary issues concerning China.

Assessment Two essay assignments (1000 words each): 20% -Written examinations (4 hours): 50% -Seminar paper (including oral presentation): 20% -Class participation: 10%
