Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should have developed a good understanding of contemporary Chinese society; the ability to comprehend and express complex ideas in both spoken and written forms; strategies of cross-cultural conceptualisation, incorporating translation skills, crucial to critical thinking on a range of contemporary issues concerning China.
Synopsis Reading of original modern texts, introduction to classical Chinese and advanced spoken Chinese.
Assessment Written assignments: 20% - Written examinations (3 hours): 50% - Seminar paper: 20% - Seminar participation: 10%
