Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should have acquired the knowledge that should enhance their understanding of contemporary China in the context of its long cultural tradition; the ability to comprehend and express complex ideas in both spoken and written forms, consolidating in this regard, skills already acquired at the advanced intermediate level and strategies of cross-cultural conceptualisation, incorporating translation skills, crucial to critical thinking on a range of contemporary issues concerning China.
Synopsis Reading of original modern texts, introduction to classical Chinese and advanced spoken Chinese.
