Objectives On completion of this subject successfully students should have developed a good understanding of contemporary Chinese society and its cultural background; the ability to comprehend and express complex ideas in both spoken and written forms; strategies of cross-cultural conceptualisation incorporating translation skills which are crucial to critical thinking on a range of contemporary issues concerning China.
Synopsis Reading of original texts, introduction to classical Chinese, and advanced spoken Chinese.
Assessment Two essay assignments: 20% -Written examinations (4 hours): 50% -Seminar paper (including oral presentation): 20% -Class participation: 10%
