Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have an understanding of the range of exhibition applications and types; spatial ambiance concepts and the ways in which they are generated; of the visual communication aspects of exhibition design; the way in which lighting, colour, sound, etc., can be used in exhibitions; have basic understanding of major construction methods used in exhibitions; and be able to create simple exhibition concepts and structures.
Synopsis The subject explores the range of exhibition and related design applications and types. Students are initially introduced to the concepts of interior space and spatial ambiance which is then merged with the visual communications aspects of exhibitions. Topics covered include current and recent thinking about exhibitions and related activities; the types of construction and presentation used in exhibition design; lighting, colour, sound, projection, lasers and other media. Students undertake design project work to create simple exhibition concepts and structures.
