12 points - 24 hours per week, including 9 studio hours and 15 independent study hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: FNA1801 and FNA1802 - Corequisites: None - Core for tapestry major

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a broad range of and fluent ability in the technical skills of weaving; be exploring and consolidating their personal aesthetic; have an increased proficiency in a broad range of fine art techniques including drawing, collage and other media appropriate to tapestry preparation; have a range of research skills and approaches which enable them to enrich their tapestry practice; have the ability to critically evaluate their own and others work in the context of contemporary art practice and theory; have a conceptual and historical overview of tapestry practice; continue to practice safe workshop procedures.

Synopsis This subject consolidates the shift to individual research and development structured by students. Students are encouraged to analyse their own work and that of others in order to build up a conceptual and critical ability. The lecturer facilitates this process through guidance and direction allowing students to extract a personal aesthetic and method of practice. Individual and group tutorials are arranged to provide critical feedback and discussion. Additionally, slide talks, visiting artists, gallery and museum visits supplement and support studio investigations.
