Synopsis This unit is the second part of a series of subjects available as an area of specialisation for visual communication students, although it may be undertaken as an elective by any students who have successfully completed the prerequisites subjects. In this unit, students are instructed in more advanced principles of page layout and desktop publishing applications, the typical products of which are printed material. Using design and advertising industry standards, students create increasingly complex designs and layouts. Specific attention is increasingly given to establishing, defining and maintaining typographic standards, working with colour standards/systems, and acquiring images from a variety of sources, such as reflective and transparent material or CD ROM. Assigned projects involve creating documents, defining grids and master page elements, importing and formatting text, preparation and placement of images/graphics as well as linking, updating and general file and project management related to digital artwork preparation. The course is delivered through small group tutorial sessions of fifteen students per group.
