Digital imaging 2

3 points - 2 studio hours and 4 independent study hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield and Gippsland - Prerequisite: DIS1101

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to use a computer and peripheral devices to acquire, compose and output images; be able skilfully to work with digital images; be familiar with file formats and management; be able to use computer facilities to assist in the realisation of conceptual works particular to their major discipline; know how to display their experience in a range of image creation/editing, 'painting' and 'drawing' software applications.

Synopsis DIS1101 encourages the creative, open and innovative use of the computer as a design tool. This subject increases the technical competence of students so they have the skills to realise their creative aspirations. Students are introduced to increasingly complex capabilities of the computer and the use of peripheral devices. They use the various software options with growing skill and expertise. At this level students are encouraged to identify ways in which their digital imaging abilities can be used or incorporated into other studio areas. Students at this level may elect to take digital imaging as a major component of their degree course. An open, adventurous approach to digital imaging and a willingness to experiment are encouraged in both formal and informal classes and individual discussions.
