Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should appreciate the skills and competencies required to produce ceramic works of quality using a broad range of forming techniques including sculptural and architectural scale works, functional ceramics, and quantity studio production processes; be able to apply experimental approaches to ceramic forming processes, surface treatment and firing techniques; possess considerable manipulative skills in their chosen area of self expression; be familiar with current issues in ceramics and recognise the potential to produce works within the framework of contemporary culture; be able to share their work through well-researched class papers, competent critiques and effective communication skills; be able to pursue individual research across the spectrum of ceramic technologies including the requirements for utilising ceramic materials in a multimedia context; understand and undertake the process of designing for specific briefs.
Synopsis Set projects link the theoretical and practical content of the subject. Students are encouraged to build a strong ideas base to their work and produce results of quality through competent clay forming, surface treatment and kiln firing.
