Ceramic practice and theory 2

6 points - 6 studio hours and 6 independent study hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: APA1101 - Corequisites: APA1202

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should possess increased technical expertise across a range of clay forming processes; be able to confidently exercise autonomy over their design processes; have extended their understanding of surface treatment and firing techniques; have increased capability for materials preparation and kiln firing; be confident in their ability to communicate, in oral and written form, responses to contemporary issues of both technical and conceptual relevance; demonstrate health and safety procedures in the ceramics studio.

Synopsis This subject builds on the skills and understanding gained by students in APA1101. Creative problems in ceramics are investigated, strengthening technical and aesthetic competence. Independent investigation and interpretation allows students to focus on technical and conceptual issues that lay the foundations for a more personal direction in their work.

Assessment Folio: 80% - Oral presentation: 20%
