Jewellery/metals practice and theory 1

6 points - 6 studio hours and 6 independent study hours per week - First semester - Caulfield - Prerequisites: None - Corequisites: APA1603

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a systematic understanding of associated skills and technologies, and their application in metalsmithing; begin to initiate, develop and express personal aesthetic solutions in the medium; have an understanding of the synthesis between concept, design solution, process and studio production; understand and be proficient in applying health and safety procedures associated with studio practice.

Synopsis Studio projects introduce students to the elements of the medium enabling them to formulate their expressive language and lay the foundation for future development. Students are given the opportunity to explore contemporary jewellery issues while gaining a knowledge and understanding of the many appropriate materials, techniques and associated processes applied in the building of contemporary jewellery and object practice.

Assessment Folio: 80% - Assigned projects: 20%
