* Prerequisites: Third-year physics subjects including the compulsory units of `Electromagnetism', `Statistical mechanics', `Quantum mechanics', `Applications of quantum mechanics', `Nuclear physics' and `Solid state physics'

Synopsis At least six units are to be taken, with `Quantum mechanics' and either `Nuclear physics' or `Solid state physics' being compulsory. Students are required to present a report on an original experimental project chosen in consultation with their supervisor.

Assessment Examinations (normally 6x2 hours): 50%
* Experimental project: 50%
