This year is not semesterised. There will be two extended periods of time
spent gaining additional clinical experience in general radiography, paediatric
radiography, trauma imaging, mobile and theatre radiography and fluoroscopic
imaging. Following the first period of clinical experience, the following
subjects will be studied: the subject RAD4010 (Medical imaging and
methods 3), covers the technological and physical principles underpinning
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the positioning and processing requirements
for MRI studies of the head and neck, abdomen and joint and the associated
cross-sectional imaging anatomy and pathology. RAD4020 (Sonographic
methods 2 and medical imaging dosimetry), will extend the knowledge base
developed in RAD3062 (Sexuality, sonographic methods 1 and sonographic
professional skills) and RAD1072 (Radiologic dosimetry and safety). The
instrumentation and positioning principles underpinning mammography will also
be covered. Relevant clinical practice in MRI, obstetric and gynaecological
sonography and mammography is undertaken in RAD4060 (Advanced clinical
studies). The subject RAD4030 (Research in medical imaging) will extend the
knowledge and understanding of scientific research methodologies and research
in radiography and medical imaging developed in RAD1041 (Professional
skills 1) and RAD1092 (Professional skills 2).
Following the second period of clinical studies, students will undertake an
elective that will extend their knowledge and research skills in an aspect of
radiography and medical imaging of particular interest to the student. RAD4040
(Sonographic methods 3) will provide students with the necessary knowledge
and skills required to conduct sonographic examinations of the abdominal organs
and related structures. Appropriate clinical experience in sonographic
examinations of the abdomen will be gained in RAD4060 (Advanced clinical
studies).
