Objectives On completion of the subject it is expected that students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of key sociological concepts; understand the social context of nursing and health care; describe the influence of social factors on health and illness; critically appreciate the inequalities in health status among various groups in contemporary Australian society.
Synopsis This subject introduces sociology as a discipline and its relevance and application to the practice and the profession of nursing. The subject includes the identification and critical analysis of the social basis of health, illness and health care within Australian society.
Assessment Written assignment: 30% * Workshop exercises: 20% * Formal examination: 50%
