Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to discuss reasons why health assessment has gained greater significance within the nursing profession; define physical health assessment from a nursing perspective and relate the definition to the philosophy of health; explore the concepts related to health assessment using clinical reasoning processes; identify factors that will enhance accurate data collection relevant to the health history; perform a physical health assessment on a client; apply various health assessment techniques and tools of assessment during a physical examination of a client; document findings obtained from the health assessment of a client.

Synopsis The subject will increase knowledge and skills using a systematic approach to health assessment of the client. This knowledge will include both subjective and objective data pertinent to the health history. Emphasis will be placed on developing and practising skills essential for data collection, clinical learning documentation and interpretation of data, and physical health assessment techniques.

Assessment Fieldwork report: 40% * Written examination: 60%
