Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to explore the changing conceptualisations of health, illness, healing, health care and nursing; demonstrate critical thinking and analysis skills in leading discussions about selected contemporary issues and trends in nursing; analyse critically the development and progress of the discipline of nursing; evaluate current models of health care delivery; debate alternative and contemporary models of health care delivery; discuss the impact of health reform on nursing practice and health care delivery; evaluate patterns of practice and the implications of these for patient/client care.

Synopsis This subject will introduce students to the concepts and issues impacting on contemporary nursing practice, education and research. Students will be encouraged to critically explore the changes and challenges confronting nursing and the implications of these for the future.

Assessment Seminar presentation: 30% * Written assignment: 70%
