Objectives Clinically based learning activities are expected to enable students to demonstrate preoperative education and assessment of patients undergoing specialised surgery; cognitive and psychomotor skills relating to surgical intervention in order to provide nursing support and assistance during the intraoperative phase of cardiac, vascular, thoracic, renal, `ear, nose and throat' and ophthalmic surgery; postoperative assessment, evaluation and discharge planning for these patients.

Synopsis Utilising clinically focused learning packages, the student will develop knowledge and skills in a variety of surgical specialties. The subject will include cardiac, vascular, thoracic, renal, `ear, nose and throat' (ENT) and ophthalmic surgical intervention in adults and children. Clinical placements allow for application and consolidation of concepts learnt.
