Critical care concepts 2

Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student-driven activities, this subject should enable students to analyse the interrelationships and processes of various psychosocial and physiological concepts; apply these concepts to various patient situations and acute care settings; appreciate that emotions, attitudes and thoughts are imbedded in the illness experience of critically ill patients; determine the antecedent conditions, behavioural definitions and subjective data of psycho-social phenomenon; identify and apply appropriate nursing actions.

Synopsis This subject will develop the student's knowledge of principles of interpersonal nursing practice and ethico-legal responsibilities of acute nursing care delivery. Counselling methods necessary to facilitate the nursing assessment of an individual's cultural values and beliefs, personal and family coping mechanisms and perceptions of health will be included.

Assessment Two clinical reports, clinical focus objectives and a poster presentation.
