Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the context, role and scope of knowledge-based decision support systems; be able to use suitable techniques to analyse, design and build a prototype knowledge-based decision support system; and be aware of the current areas of research in knowledge-based decision support.

Synopsis In this subject, students explore the problems of application of knowledge-based systems technology to decision support. Students will develop an understanding of the concept of knowledge-based decision support systems (KBDSS) and will become acquainted with the tools, techniques, methodologies and approaches used in KBDSS development and design. Students will explore a theoretical issue related to the design and development of intelligent KBDSS decision aids and lead discussion on this topic. The concepts discussed in class will be applied to building a prototype KBDSS.
