Objectives At the completion of this subject, students should know the phases, activities and products of some of the approaches most commonly used in the development of information systems. They should have learned how to carry out some of the basic techniques of systems analysis, design and implementation, and how they are integrated into the information systems development process. They will developed an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the analyst within each phase of the system development lifecycle, and the skills and competencies required in order to carry them out.
Synopsis This subject aims to provide students with a detailed understanding of the information systems development process and the part which the systems analyst plays in it. In doing so, it brings together three key themes: the activities involved in systems development; the tasks and responsibilities of the systems analyst throughout the process, and the attributes and competencies which the analyst must have in order to carry out these tasks successfully. The subject will provide students with a grounding in the activities involved in some of the approaches most commonly used in the development of an information system, together with some initial experience of their application in a real-world problem situation. Students will learn some of the basic skills of analysis, design and system implementation and how they are integrated into the development process.
