Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the complex relationship between the record and society; know about the politics of information, the power of the document and the role of information management in society; and understand the needs of end-users of documents.

Synopsis This subject focuses on the role of the document in its societal context. It explores the relationship between communications, document, information and politics. Topics covered include the role of the document in society; the politics of information and the document: cultural identity and continuity, censorship, privacy, ownership; equity; documenting society: how the document is made available, managed and by whom in the interests of groups in contemporary society.
