Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have become fully aware of the role of the library/resource centre within the school's educational program; become fully conversant with library management and administration; worked with users in the selection and use of suitable reading and resource materials; and experienced the contribution of the librarian to the policies and objectives of the particular library.

Synopsis This subject aims to enable students to become fully aware of the role of the library or resource centre within an educational program. Topics covered include library management and administration and working with children in the selection and use of suitable reading and curriculum materials. The subject includes twenty days practicum, to be supervised in a library staffed by a trained, experienced librarian. Under the supervising librarian, students are to participate in all facets of the administration and organisation of a library. The subject is taught by group briefing, study guides and personal consultation and individual supervision in the training library by qualified library staff.
