Database design and administration

Objectives By completing this subject, students develop an understanding of physical database design and maintenance.

Synopsis Embedded SQL, performance monitoring and modelling, system tuning and optimisation for single-site and networked systems, CASE tools for physical design, schema generators, concurrency and locking, restart and recovery methods, system security.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 50%
* Practical work: 50%
