Objectives To impart an understanding of simple thermodynamic systems including the effects of such related phenomena as sound, heat transfer and radiation.

Synopsis Thermodynamics: first law, system analysis, case studies including compressors, engines and refrigeration. Heat transfer: conduction and radiation. Sound: measurement, attenuation, isolation and its effect on people.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70%
* Laboratory work, assignments and tests: 30%
