Modelling and experimental measurement

Objectives To enable students to understand and assess the significance of experimental results and to understand how to test hypotheses. To develop the ability to use simple computer spreadsheets to analyse and present experimental data.

Synopsis Experimental errors. Measurement and frequency distribution. Mean, mode and standard deviation; standard deviation of the mean. Probability distributions including binomial, normal, Poisson, Weibull. Linear and multiple regression, correlation. Confidence levels, t tests, covariance. Experimental design.
