Objectives To equip students with the fundamental system modelling and control methodologies.

Synopsis System concept. Physical and mathematical modelling of engineering systems. Transfer functions and reduction techniques. Stability of control systems. Transient and steady-state behaviour of control systems. Final control elements and control valve sizing. Time domain design of controllers. PID controller tuning methods. Lead, lag, pole-zero placement compensation techniques. Root locus sketches. Frequency response analysis and design. Bode plots. System identification. Computer aided control system design.

Assessment Assignments: 40%
* Examination (3 hours): 60%
