Objectives To build on the student's understanding of thermodynamic systems with particular emphasis given to the real behaviour of such systems.

Synopsis Review of the first law of thermodynamics and its application to systems and control volumes. The second law of thermodynamics and its consequences, entropy, T-s and h-s property diagrams. Applications of thermodynamics to engines, gas turbines, compressors and power generation.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60%
* Laboratory and assignments: 40%
