Thermodynamics III

E Hu

4.5 points
* 39 lecture hours and 26 laboratory/tutorial hours
* First semester
* Gippsland
* Prerequisite: GEG2733

Objectives The student is expected to acquire an understanding of the thermodynamic processes (cycles) upon which various refrigeration and air conditioning systems are based and the concepts relating to steady heat conduction.

Synopsis (1) Refrigeration: basic cycle and modifications; ph chart; absorption refrigeration; solar refrigeration cycles; gas refrigeration. (2) Psychrometry and air conditioning: gas mixtures; gas- vapour mixtures; psychrometric charts; air-conditioning systems; cooling towers. (3) Heat transfer (conduction): basic principle of conduction; one-dimensional steady conduction; two-dimensional steady conduction (numerical methods).

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60%
* Assignments and experimental report written: 40%
